· Heat Cramps.

From Training Officer Rich Carson:

This is a fairly common heat emergency and is caused by working in a hot environment. Usually the initial stage of heat exposure, it is characterized by sweating and a cramping sensation similar to that of diarreha. Weakness may also be present.

The first aid treatment for heat cramps is removing the patient from the hot environment and providing plenty of fluids. Water or a Gatorade type drink is preferred. Administer several glasses of the above until symptoms resolved.

The above is general informational guidelines and not to be substituted for professional care. If you feel that you have encountered a serious injury or are not sure what to do, always call 911 for assistance.
