Heat Exhaustion.
From
Training Officer Rich Carson:
Heat
exhaustion is fairly common and can be self limiting
or require emergency room treatment. Exposure to heat
is the cause.
Heat
exhaustion is evidenced by sweating, clammy skin,
weakness, dizziness, rapid breathing, rapid pulse,
and possibly vomiting.
Immediate
removal from the hot environment is paramount. Actions
must also be taken to cool the patient by applying
cool towels to the upper body and, if the patient
is able to tolerate fluids, large amounts of water
or Gatorade type drinks.
If the symptoms are severe, or are not resolved within
20 minutes call 911 for help.
Infants and the elderly are particularly susceptible
to severe forms of heat exhaustion.
The
above is general informational guidelines and not
to be substituted for professional care. If you feel
that you have encountered a serious injury or are
not sure what to do, always call 911 for assistance.
